Camp NAWIC: Inspiring the Next Generation
This Spring Break, NAWIC Chicago Metro #325 proudly hosted Camp NAWIC—a free, donation-funded program for high school girls within Chicago Public Schools. This immersive, five-day experience introduces young women to the many opportunities within the construction industry.
Each year, campers engage with a variety of disciplines, including union trades, concrete, general contracting, design and engineering, fire suppression systems, and essential life skills such as interviewing and professional development.
This year marked Balanced Environments first time participating, where we had the opportunity to showcase the landscape industry. Campers learned about diverse career pathways in landscaping, explored both union and non-union project environments, and collaborated on a design project that was brought to life through a hands-on planting installation.
We extend our sincere thanks to River Point and the Hines team for hosting an engaging and educational day. Campers experienced a comprehensive look at commercial real estate, toured mechanical building systems, and visited an active construction site to see how multiple trades work together. We also thank Gibsons Italia for providing lunch.
Beyond Camp NAWIC, we remain committed to supporting the future of the industry through partnerships with the College of DuPage and Heartland Community College horticulture programs.
Together, we continue to encourage, empower, and inspire young women to explore meaningful careers in construction.
