July begins our 20th year in business as Balanced Environments we are celebrating for the remainder of 2023 with a series of history pieces, factoids, stories, and family lore.

We are proud to work for and help grow this family business into the wonderful organization it is today. Join us in enjoying these pieces of our BE history.

Balanced Environments story began as D.R. Church Landscape Co., Inc in 1963 under our owner, Bruce’s father, Denny Church’s ownership.

Bruce Church started jumping on and off landscape trucks and equipment when he was barely old enough to walk and always knew he would work for his father’s company. When Bruce graduated from University of Illinois in 1983, he began working full time for Denny at D.R Church Landscape Co., Inc. The father and son combination thrived in the Landscape Contracting industry for years together. In 1987, Denny decided to follow a passion creating and building a plant nursery, naming it Royal Oaks Nursery. Bruce took over running D.R. Church and grew the landscape business to five branches employing over 400 people.

In 1998 Bruce and the executive team at D.R. Church looked to increase their presence outside of the Midwest and joined forces with six other companies across the United States to form the first publicly traded company dedicated to commercial landscaping and tree care. LandCare USA was listed s GRW on the New York Stock Exchange.

Stay tuned each week for more on the history of Balanced Environments and our founder Bruce Church’s thoughts on the landscape industry, the history of the company and the many, many great people that we have worked with over the years.

Know anyone that has worked D.R. Church Landscape Co., Inc. or BE over the years? We would love to talk with them about their time working with Bruce and Balanced Environments Have them contact us to catch up!
