SUMMARY:John Greiten Memorial Golf Outing 2023
DESCRIPTION:John’s Journey with MDS: \nJohn (Johnny G) was diagnosed with MDS at the end of August 2020 after becoming gravely ill and hospitalized. Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) is a rare group of blood cancers that causes the abnormal development of blood cells in the bone marrow. Based on the several factors such as the type of MDS\, age and health of the patient there are different paths of treatment. \nAn older patient is usually put on a maintenance program which doesn’t cure MDS but helps maintain the side effects of the syndrome. \nA younger individual could be a candidate for a bone marrow transplant\, which John based on his age could qualify. John however still needed to recover from the original hospital stay that left him with a hard journey of PT and OT to recover from the lost of many functions before they would proceed. The complications of the cancer forced John to take an early retirement from a job he was so passionate about\, which was the the Town of Lisbon Park Director. John with all the huge support he was receiving by his wife\, family\, friends and healthcare providers\, recovered and was approved for the bone marrow transplant. Next to find a donor. They first look to family members to see if there is a successful candidate to donate bone marrow\, but with none available they then go to a bone marrow donor bank (Be The Match). Eventually a donor was found\, a young 21 year old international male willing to help John on his journey. John with his known continuous positive attitude and huge support fought forward. In February of 2021 John underwent the bone marrow transplant which appeared to have been a smooth and successful procedure. John was even released earlier than expected. Soon after his release\, it appeared that John’s blood wasn’t recovering at the expected rate. Over time there were 2 more bone marrow boost from the same donor that were done to try an get the cells to start producing as needed. John was starting to spend more time in the hospital than at home due to complication of not having the blood cells and platelets he needed. John continued to have his positive attitude and continue the fight. One of the main complication with MDS is with low white blood counts\, infections are very common and difficult to treat. John ended up developing an infection that quickly led to sepsis. The sepsis was too much for his body\, now too weaken to fight. John unfortunately lost his battle to MDS on October 10\, 2021 but he left as a winner with having so many people there to love and support him through his battle and leaving such a legacy. \nAnna Greiten \n\nLocation Fairways of Woodside GC\nGet your foursome together – $135 per person.

SUMMARY:Real Estate to the Rescue
DESCRIPTION:Do you love to golf?  Don’t golf but enjoy mingling at dinner?  Have friends you never see because they office in the suburbs and you’re in the city?  Don’t care for people but love animals? \nThen please join us for a day of scramble-format golfing and dinner at The Glen Club\, – for late-summer fun and a GREAT cause. \nIf you work in commercial real estate\, we know that you receive many golf invitations for networking and sponsorships — but this event has a higher purpose.  We will be raising funds for Save-A-Pet\, one of the largest\, non-profit\, no-kill dog and cat rescues located in Lake County which proudly boasts the top rating on Charity Navigator.  Save-A-Pet has fulfilled its mission of “Help\, Heal\, Home” for more than 64\,000 abused\, neglected\, injured\, lost and at-risk animals since it was founded in 1972.  If you can’t imagine your life without your furry family member\, or secretly tear up when you see the abused animal commercials\, then this is your chance to help a well-stewarded rescue in a meaningful way. \nWHY IS THIS OUTING DIFFERENT… \n>  Opportunity to play golf at the spectacular Glen Club\, which is consistently ranked among the best golf courses in Illinois and the country; \n>  Golf ticket price includes boxed lunches\, buffet dinner and drinks served on the course at no additional cost; \n>  Adoptable dogs will be available for a meet and greet at registration and post-golf; \n>  Sponsorships are tax deductible up to the value of the donation; \n>  Extensive PR in Connect Media and REJournal publications\, Save-A-Pet website\, event signage\, event website\, Linkedin posts and e-blasts for all Sponsors \nPlease scroll to the bottom to sponsor\, donate or register for a great day – for you and for an animal in need.  Then forward this web page to those friends and colleagues you want to see.  THANK YOU! \nCommittee Members:  Alissa Adler (Colliers)\, Rebekah Carlson (Carlson Integrated)\, Nancy Roach (Strada Real Estate Services)\, Andrew Fredricks (Avison Young)\, Frank Biondo (ReJournals)\, Carol Atkins (Connect Media)\, Don Kerwin (Beverly Companies)\, Kerry Kuczynski (Save-A-Pet)\,  Stacy Ellington (Save-A-Pet)\, Kim Miller (Loberg Construction)\, Kandice Martinez (Stantec)\, Meghan McLean (McHugh Construction)\, Valerie Cook (Cushman and Wakefield)\, Kaylee Knorr (Leopardo)\, Jeremy Szybowicz (RE-Development Solutions) \nSave-A-Pet is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and one of the largest no-kill cat and dog rescues in Lake County that operates a full-time adoption center. We provide a safe haven for abused\, neglected\, injured\, lost\, or animals that have escaped euthanasia. We will never put a limit on the amount of care we will provide for an animal and we never give up on them. Thus\, Save-A-Pet offers rescued dogs and cats the greatest opportunity for a second chance. We take great pride in practicing our no-kill mission and in stewarding our donors’ contributions; both of which have led to the successful adoption of over 63\,000 dogs and cats. www.saveapetil.org
